A picturesque and shaded hike, the Solstice Canyon Loop Trail takes you to one of the best destinations for picnics. The trail is located near Malibu, California in the Santa Monica Mountains. It’s a 4.6 kilometer out and back trail with a total elevation gain of 202 m.
There are several trails in that area, but this trail is probably the easiest and shady trail that offers great views and the perfect spot for a picnic. While hiking, you will be mesmerized by the natural beauty of the Canyon, but you will also love the historical structures built over 100 years ago.
For example, there is a stone hunting cabin called Keller house which was damaged by Wildfire in 2007. It’s a very popular destination and it can be too crowded on weekends. There is limited parking, so carpooling is recommended. You can also park the vehicle outside the parking area along the road but you have to make sure it’s on the outside of the road striping. There are restrooms as well. You can also take your dogs with you, but they should be kept on a leash.
The Hike begins from the Solstice Canyon parking lot. You will have to follow the road up and just after a short distance, you will begin to get some great views of the coast.
There is a short waterfall that spills down the creek and you can get to the stream after a quick descent. You can also see the ruins of the statuary if you follow the east bank of the stream and climb up a few steps. If you want to take some rest, this is the perfect place for you, as it’s quite peaceful. The waterfall is easily accessible, even when it’s too crowded.
To return to the parking area, follow the Rising Sun trail on the other side. This trail also offers great views of the coast and the Canyon, and soon it will take you to the original parking lot.
